Compliant Mechanisms Math Students Win at MathFest 2013

Mathematics students Austin Unsicker, Tyler Hills, Jordan Porter, Alex Safsten, and Travis Fillmore represented BYU well at MathFest 2013 in Hartford Connecticut where they received three awards for their presentations on origami mathematics.

Out of the 240 student presentors and talks from universities across the country, BYU was honored with the most talks awarded. The BYU maths tudents worked hard together helping each other with the research and presentations. MAA MathFest, the largest annual gathering of mathematicians, was held Wednesday, July 31, through Saturday, August 3 in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. The students were advised by Dr. Denise Halverson of the BYU Department of Mathematics, who is a Co-Pl on BYU's grant from the National Science Foundation's "Origami Design for Integration of Self-Assembling Systems for Engineering Innovation" program.
